DAY 1 Welcome to Rwanda; a land of ‘a thousand hills’. On arrival in Kigali you will be met by your guide to enjoy a city tour. In the city you’ll be amazed by the splendour of Rwanda, and note that the city is very clean and the people are friendly and hospitable. Visit the Genocide Memorial Centre; where you will see moving exhibits and memorial explaining Rwanda’s genocide history. On to the national museum where beautiful examples of village buildings, artefacts, gardens, dancers and history are found. Other sites in the city are included as well as Kaplaki Crafts shop, Inema Art Centre and Kimironko local market late in the evening. Overnight at a quaint garden style hotel in Kigali . D
DAY 2 After breakfast drive through the beautiful terraced hills as you head to the Volcanoes National Park; a well-known habitat to the mountain gorillas. Arrive in the afternoon and check into your lodge, you will spend two nights lodge accommodation near the park. BLD
DAY 3 GORILLA TREKKING DAY. Assemble in the morning at the park headquarters for a briefing. You will need to bring your trekking gear, drinking water and packed lunch. Later proceed to the forest to track the gorillas, trekking may take you 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the apes in their natural habitat. After meeting and staying in the presence of the gorillas for a maximum of one hour, return to your lodge for relaxation prior to dinner in the lovely lodge surrounds. BLD
DAY 4 An early morning breakfast before heading off to visit Lake Burera and Ruhondo, the two lakes known as ‘Twin Lakes of Rwanda.’ These are beautiful lakes located at the base of volcano Muhabura and close to the border with Uganda. They are surrounded by steep hills and large waterfalls with a backdrop of the Virunga volcanic mountains. A great spots to be visited after watching the gorillas in the Rwandan mountains. Returning to your lodge for lunch then travel to Gisenyi for an overnight stay near the shores of Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is Rwanda’s largest lake, and the sixth largest lake in Africa. BLD
DAY 5 After breakfast, a scenic and relaxing boat trip on Lake Kivu is included before you transfer to Kigali where your tour ends. An Airport Transfer is included. B
**NOTE – A certain amount of fitness is required to do this safari. Altitude and walking over uneven ground must be taken into consideration. On game drives the roads may be bumpy.
