Malawi, a little known gem of a country, in the heart of central southern Africa, offers a true African experience. The country is sculptured by Africa’s Great Rift Valley, the largest single geographical feature on earth.  Lush towering mountains, fertile valley floors and enormous crystal clear lakes are hallmarks of the Rift Valley.  Travelling to Malawi will offer a fascinating variety of sights and experiences; diversity of landscapes, the huge Lake Malawi, stunning National Parks and reserves, water sports and outdoor activities making up an amazing country.

Stunning countryside dotted with tobacco, tea and sugar cane plantations with mountainous backdrops.  On this safari you will enjoy game drives, night bush walks and river boat cruises, what a relaxing way to experience a dream come true.

Staying at Liwonde National Park offers an area of captivating variety beauty.  The amount of bird species and animals that can be spotted here will be surprising. Majete Wildlife Reserve will be a highlight with wildlife spotting to remember forever.

Then South Luangwa National Park; one of Africa’s finest wildlife reserves and successfully supports one of the largest concentrations of Elephants in Africa – a sight to behold. Even a night drive to view nocturnal animals and experience the African night life is included. We always endeavour to stay of the beaten track and this is exactly what Malawi and Zambia offers.

DAY 1 Australia to Blantyre via Johannesburg.

DAY 2 On arrival in Blantyre you will be met by your experienced tour guide. Drive through the city of Blantyre on the way to your hotel. Have a relaxing afternoon in the town founded in 1876, and named after the small Scottish village in which David Livingstone was born. Malawi is a warm and welcoming country that offers visitors wonderful scenery, fascinating parks and some of the friendliest people in Africa. It is no wonder Malawi is known as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa. Enjoy the city sights before you check in at your accommodation to overnight. D

DAY 3 Today’s scenic drive takes you to Lengwe National Park, located in the Lower Shire Valley. The park consists of a treasure chest of flora, including the baobab; known as the ‘Giants of Africa.’ Tall mopani trees dominate the landscape, providing cover to the reclusive nyala antelope, and a host of other small to large herbivores and carnivores. Overnight in the park. BD

DAY 4 Experience a morning walk in Lengwe National Park, the park is also a paradise for bird watchers with over 400 recorded species. Afternoon visit the ‘Nyala Sanctuary’ to view herds of Nyala for those fabulous close – up photographs. From here it’s a close drive to your next lodge, an oasis in the bush on the banks of the mighty Shire River near Majete Wildlife Reserve. BD

DAY 5 Morning at leisure before you enter the Majete Wildlife Reserve, an afternoon game drive in the reserve is included. With the sharp eyes of your guide you will have the opportunity to spot the African wildlife, such as elephant, black rhino, buffalo, waterbuck, bushbuck, nyala, zebra. You will spend two nights in the reserve. BD

DAY 6 Early morning bush walk in the reserve, also very rich in birdlife with over 300 species. Most of your day is at leisure around the accommodation. In the afternoon take part in another game drive in Majete Wildlife Reserve. BD

DAY 7 Early morning game drive in the reserve before a relaxing morning with the view of lush riverine forest heavily shaded by giant leadwoods, marulas, star chestnuts and wild mangoes. Drive to Blantyre where you will stay for two nights. BD

DAY 8 A day trip to capture the fantastic views of the tea plantation region is not to be missed. Visit a tea plantation at the foot of Mount Mulanje; the scenery is described as majestic, with wraparound views of lush and falling land under tall skies. Return in the afternoon to Blantyre.BD

DAYS 9 – 10 Depart to the enchanting Zomba Plateau. This is a place of sheer beauty with its flowering trees and shrubs, clear mountain air and fantastic scenery. Experience a morning drive on the escarpment. Spend two nights at the Zomba Plateau. BD

DAYS 11 – 13 Driving north to Malawi’s prime Liwonde National Park; an area of captivating variety and beauty. This park is situated in the banks of the Shire River. Enjoy daily game drives and boat cruises, the relaxing way to explore this beautiful segment of Africa; with elephant, sable, hippo, crocodile and prolific bird life in riverine abundance. You will experience an unspoilt Africa at its best for three nights! BLD

DAYS 14 – 16 Today depart to have your first stay on the shores of Lake Malawi; the third largest and second deepest lake in Africa. This great lake’s tropical waters are reportedly the habitat of more species of fish than any other freshwater lake on earth. With tropical vegetation on one side and the sparkling warm waters of Lake Malawi on the other, your accommodation provides supreme comfort amidst exquisite surroundings. A boat cruise to Bird Island is included to watch the display of the African fish eagle, as well as other species of birdlife. BD

DAYS 17 – 19 Travel north – west to Luangwa Valley which is one of Africa’s prime wildlife sanctuaries. Stay on the banks of the Luangwa River for three nights. These days are used to explore Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park and its varieties of game that make it world famous. The park successfully supports one of the largest concentrations of elephants in Africa and also has an expanding population of leopards. An evening game drive to view nocturnal animals is also included. South Luangwa National Park is one of the world’s great wildernesses and provides the grand finale to this intriguing safari. BLD

DAY 20 After breakfast you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Lusaka in Zambia including airline levies and taxes, subject to change). You will start your extension of choice today or depart on your flight via Johannesburg to Australia. B

DAY 21 Arrive in Australia.
